Lore Types Explained
There are four types of Lore that can be found in God of War Ragnarok, all of which offer a little bit of XP when you interact with them. When read by Kratos', these pieces of Lore - which include Scrolls, Runes, and Stone Markers - provide details regarding the realm it was found in, along with information on who resides in it. Each piece of Lore found will also offer small bits of XP when you read them.
- Scrolls are rolled-up parchments that can sometimes be confused for Treasure Maps.
- Runes are large runes scrawled on the sides of walls, easily distinguished by the way they glow bright blue.
- Lore Markers are large, monolith-like tablets found in the game world, usually within ruins or other notable locations.
- Treasure Maps are a variant of Scrolls, which can be distinguished by the spikes sticking out from either end. Picking one of these up will give you a text and visual clue to the location of another type of collectible: Buried Treasure! Notably, the Treasure Map scroll is counted as Lore, while the Buried Treasure itself is tracked independently on the map screen checklist.

Aurvangar Wetlands Lore
There isoneLore collectible to be found in the Aurvangar Wetlands.
Aurvangar Wetlands - Lore 1 - Unsafe Roads
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore is found in an optional side area, just after you lower the wall to pass North. Keep left and you may spot the Legendary Chest on a raised wooden platform. To get here, sail further along and spot a section you can slip the boat under.
Dock the boat, then look for a wooden ledge you can leap up to.
From here, go right and drop down the wooden ledge, and you’ll see the tall stone Lore Marker on your left, near a tent.
advertisement
Nidavellir Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in Nidavellir.
Nidavellir - Lore 1 - Shopping List
- Type: Scroll
This Artifact can be found in the Nidavellir marketplace, the area with the large statue of Odin where you first meet Sindri in this realm. Check on the ground at the base of the statue; it’ll be close to Sindri’s workshop and between two awnings.
Nidavellir - Lore 2 - Mining Glory
- Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
- Type: Treasure Map
The second piece of Lore in Nidavellir is visible from your first visit, however you cannot actually reach it until much later in the game. You’ll know it's time when you return to Svartalfheim and have picked up a new piece of equipment.
advertisement
Once you’ve acquired it, return to Nidavellir and go to the end of the sewer passage you originally used to get from the marketplace with the Odin statue to the Eastern side of town. Face North, then run North up the main road to a square with a well in the middle.
Here, check the back-right corner for a Wind Vent you can throw your new equipment into. Use it to climb to the upper area: the Treasure Map will be ahead near the back wall.
The Treasure Map points to a location in The Applecore. However due to the way the level is set up, you won’t be able to get there unless you enter The Applecore from the exit: go to the Mystic Gateway in the Aurvangar Wetlands, take the ferry over to Sverd Sands, and then enter the Applecore from there.
Dragon Beach Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Dragon Beach.
Dragon Beach - Lore 1 - Don’t Breathe
- Type: Rune Read
This piece of Lore is a Rune Read, and can be found in the Bay of Bounty. It’s specifically at Dragon Beach, which is the Eastern shore of the bay’s Southern area. You’ll find it on a wall under the elevated wooden walkway, and close to a Nornir Chest.
advertisement
Modvitnir’s Rig Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Modvitnir's Rig.
Modvitnir’s Rig - Lore 1 - Warning
- Type: Lore Marker
The Lore in Modvitnir’s Rig can be found on the main path up to the Mining Rig. Once you climb up the tower with a silver Legendary Chest on top, turn right and use the grapple point on the crane to leap over the gap. From here, look down and to your right to spot a lower area you can drop down to: the Lore Marker will be there.
If you’re wondering how to kill the lizard here, you can do that by jumping back to the tower with the Legendary Chest on it and throwing your Axe at it from there.
Radsvinn’s Rig Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Radsvinn's.
Radsvinn’s Rig - Lore 1 - Climbing the Ladder
advertisement
- Type: Scroll
This Lore scroll is found in the main battle area around the furnace tower of Radsvinn’s Rig. Head to the North part of the battle area and you’ll find it in the shade of the tower, and to the right of a Hacksilver Chest.
Althjof’s Rig Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in Althjof's Rig.
Althjof’s Rig - Lore 1 - The Squasher
- Type: Rune Read
As you progress through the rig, you’ll come to a point where you can smash through the floor from above, landing on a lower level where you have to fight a few Draugr.
Once you’re done, face South-East, then look to your left: the Runes will be on the far wall, and may be behind some crates if you didn’t destroy them during the fighting.
advertisement
Althjof’s Rig - Lore 2 - Passion
- Type: Scroll
The second Lore at Althjof’s Rig can be accessed once you reach the furnace tower at the top of the rig. Here, face South and note two wooden barrels with Soundstone plates in the shade of the left-hand wall. Use Atreus’ Sonic Arrows to destroy them.
Shimmy around the corner here, then drop down the gold chain. Jump across the gap and you’ll return to the wheel that moves a grapple point. Use it to raise the grapple point as high as it will go.
Climb back up the gold chain, turn left, then use the grapple point to get across. Before you fall, grapple again to smash through a stone wall and into a small room.
Here, look to your right to find this Scroll on the ground in an alcove.
Alberich Island Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Alberich Island.
advertisement
Alberich Island - Lore 1 - Washed Ashore
- Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
- Type: Treasure Map
This Lore is found on Alberich Island, however you cannot get to it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest and pick up a new piece of equipment.
Once you’ve done this, return to Alberich Island’s main beach, then look for the Wind Vent on the right-hand wall: use your new equipment on it, then climb up the wall to the top.
Here, head right up the wooden ramp to the top of an elevator, but the lift is down at the bottom. To raise it, fire a Sonic Arrow at the Soundstone rock on your left, then head through and right down the wooden ramp.
At the bottom, look right towards the elevator, and you can see a rock with a Wind Fissure on it: throw a Draupnir Spear at it and then detonate it, allowing the geyser to flow and raise the lift.
Head on over to it and use the grapple point to make it onto a wooden platform.
advertisement
There’s a Coffin hidden under the elevator! To get it, turn around, then plug up the geyser using the Leviathan Axe. This will lower the lift, allowing you to grapple back over and then find the Coffin hidden behind the wooden wall.
Once you’ve made it across, look for the grapple point on the right and use it to get onto the island.
There, the Treasure Map will be visible on your left, under the yellow gear!
Lyngbakr Island Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Lyngbakr.
Lyngbakr Island - Lore 1 - Regarding the Removal of Resources
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore is found on Lynbakr Island (aka the whale island). From the spot where you first climbed up to the top of the wall from the docks, head left and jump across the two gaps, then go right around the corner.
advertisement
On the right-hand wall here is a gold chain: climb up it to the top, then look right to see the Lore Marker at the far end.
The Forge Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Forge.
The Forge - Lore 1 - Dear Overseer
- Type: Scroll
This Lore is found at an abandoned dwarf camp, at the foot of the peak. To get here, head right from the view down to the mine Durlin directed you to.
In the middle of the abandoned camp is a curved shelter with a proper roof: the scroll will be here.
advertisement
The Forge - Lore 2 - The Forge
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is found at the same abandoned dwarf camp as the previous Lore, at the foot of the peak. To get here, head right from the view down to the mine Durlin directed you to.
Once you arrive, head to the large wooden gate leading up to the mountain peak: the Rune Read will be on the right-hand wall.
Jarnsmida Pitmines Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in the Jarnsmida Pitmines.
Jarnsmida Pitmines - Lore 1 - The Pit-Mine
- Type: Rune Read
This piece of Lore is found in the same spot as the Nornir Chest early in the area. after crawling through a tunnel, you’ll emerge, drop down two ledges, then turn right and freeze a water trough so you can use a grapple point to cross a gap. The Nornir Chest will be directly ahead.
advertisement
From here, drop down the ledge on the left, then head around the corner and look left to see a gap you can get across with a grapple point. If it’s blocked by a large wooden container, recall the Leviathan Axe to raise it up out of the way.
Once you’ve jumped across, look left to see the runes carved into the dirt wall.
The Applecore Lore
There are threeLore collectibles to be found in The Applecore.
The Applecore - Lore 1 - The Vault
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is found at the start of the Applecore, where you stop on the boat ride just in front of Sindri’s workshop. From here, head left up the curved path to the end. You’ll see a wooden wall here with a Soundstone plate on it: have Atreus shoot it down with a Sonic Arrow, and you’ll see the Rune Read in the dark on the other side.
advertisement
The Applecore - Lore 2 - Cooperation
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker can be found after crawling through a crawl-space, after which Atreus spots a second wooden door.
You’ll then have to go right and jump over a water trough: on the other side, go right and smash a wooden wall.
In the lower area on the other side will be the Lore Marker.
The Applecore - Lore 3 - Demise of Dagestr
- Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
- Type: Treasure Map
advertisement
This Lore is found at the end of The Applecore, however you cannot access it until you’ve completed the Forging Destiny main quest and acquired new equipment during it.
Once you’ve done so, return to The Applecore by going to the Mystic Gateway in the Aurvangar Wetlands, then take the ferry that goes North-West to the Sverd Sands. Here you’ll find the elevator back into The Applecore. Once you’re down here, look for the Rope Frame you can now use to create a shortcut.
Ride down the new zipline, then make a U-Turn to the left to find a Wind Vent. Use your new equipment to plug it up and climb up the ledge.
The Treasure Map will be on the ground directly in front of you. The location it points you to is in another realm: it’s in Midgard’s Lake of Nine!
Alberich Hollow Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Alberich Hollow.
Alberich Hollow - Lore 1 - Fruits of Industry
- Type: Treasure Map
The one piece of Lore in Alberich Hollow is found at the Northern end of the tunnel. After you fight and defeat a Grim called Ormstunga, you can go under a fallen rock pillar and find a wall of gold rocks. To destroy it you’ll need a lava rock, but you can’t pass under the fallen rock pillar whilst holding one.
advertisement
To solve this, backtrack a bit back down the tunnel and look for the lava rock dispenser on your left. Grab a rock, return to the fallen rock pillar, but this time vault up the ledge on your left.
Here on your right you’ll have a view of the gold rocks: throw a lava rock at them to destroy them!
With that done, pass back under the fallen rock pillar and then make your way to the end of the tunnel. The Lore will be here, at the end of a wooden balcony on your right.
The Treasure Map leads to a spot at Modvitnir’s Rig in Svartalfheim.

There are twoLore collectibles to be found in the Temple of Light.
Temple of Light - Lore 1 - The Bifrost Bridge
- Type: Scroll
This Artifact can be found in a side-area just after Tyr jumps across some hanging panels to give you a way to cross a gap. Once you’re across, head right into a room with a Hacksilver Chest and a curved staircase.
Partway up this staircase will be a flat area, with a ledge on the left that you can drop down.
At the bottom, turn right to find a fork guarded by four Wretches: head left and down the stairs to find the Scroll at the bottom, in the back-right corner.
advertisement
Temple of Light - Lore 2 - Limitless
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is in the main Light of Alfheim chamber with the elevator. This is where you have to use Sonic Arrows to dislodge some Twilight Stone that Tyr rotates into position for you. In this room, there’s actually a second chunk of Soundstone that you can shoot: it’s to the right of the stairs to the elevator, on the side of a giant statue.
When you shoot it, a large hanging pendant will lay slack. It has a grapple point on it, which you can use to cross a gap to a circular platform.
Once you land on it, look to your right to find the Runes on the face of a rock!
The Canyons Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Canyons.
The Canyons - Lore 1 - Vulture’s Gold
advertisement
- Type: Treasure Map
The first Treasure Map of Alfheim, and indeed the game, is found after you complete the Groa’s Secret quest and a way is opened up to the Alfheim desert. Head through the door to the right of the Mystic Gateway and head forward to the collection of dead Dark Elves: the Treasure Map will be among them.
This Treasure Map’s picture depicts The Barrens’ Buried Treasure.
The Canyons - Lore 2 - U-natur-liker

advertisement
The Below - Lore 1 - Patience
- Type: Rune Read
This Rune Read is found early in The Below, the canyonous area you can access via a cave in the South of The Barrens for the Secret of the Sands Favor.
At a certain point you’ll fight some Dark Elves in an enclosed area with lots of Twilight Crystal, and Dark Elf Nest Vines on the right. After defeating the Dark Elves, check the North wall for some handholds you can use to climb up.
Make a U-Turn to the right and you’ll find the angle you need to throw the Axe and cut all three Nest Vines, removing the flesh blocking the way down.
Kick the plate off the ledge, then drop down both ledges to the bottom, where a wooden Coffin is. The Rune Read will be down here on the right-hand wall.
The Barrens Lore
There are fourLore collectibles to be found in The Barrens.
advertisement
The Barrens - Lore 1 - Lost Page 1
- Type: Lost Page
- Unlocks: Hilt of Angrvadall
This Lost Page Lore is found at the Elf building in the North of the Barrens, and just East of the large Elf gate. The building will be occupied by two Dark Elves and a Dark Elf Lord.
Once they’re defeated, check outside the South-West area of the building: the Lore Scroll will be there, next to a Legendary Chest.
This Lore is tied to The Lost Pages Labor, and unlocks the Hilt of Angrvadall at the workshop. This Relic allows Kratos to slash three waves of light, which deals increased damage against enemies afflicted with Sonic.
The Barrens - Lore 2 - The Tower’s Purpose
- Type: Lore Marker
This piece of Lore is found at the Elf building in the North of the Barrens, and just East of the large Elf gate. The building will be occupied by two Dark Elves and a Dark Elf Lord.
Once they’re defeated, check outside the North-East area of the building: the Lore Marker will be there, next to an Artifact.
advertisement
The Barrens - Lore 3 - The Desert of Our Ignorance
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found in the giant skeleton in the North-East area of The Barrens. Enter the mouth and then look for a wall you can leap up to, leading you through the skeleton’s mouth.
Inside is a battle area, where you’ll fight many Grims, Cursed Grims, and Wretches. Once they’re all down, look for the Lore Marker in the East part of the room, close to the rock wall you can climb up.
The Barrens - Lore 4 - Gulon Cull
- Prerequisite: Complete the Secret of the Sands Favor
- Type: Lore Marker
The final Lore in The Barrens is in the South-West area of the desert, but it cannot be accessed until you complete the Secret of the Sands Favor.
When you have, look for an arena formed by a ring of statue-like structures, with a single gravestone in the middle.
advertisement
The Lore Marker will be here, close to the wall that goes around the South-East part of the arena.
There is oneLore collectible to be found in The Burrows.
The Burrows - Lore 1 - Sacrifice
- Type: Rune Read
This piece of Lore is found in The Burrows, the underground area you explore in The Forbidden Sands to clear up the storm.
At a certain point while exploring, you’ll destroy a Wretch Nest in a hallway, then leap up into a multi-leveled room shaped like a square, where you fight your first Grims of the area, as well as two Light Elves. From the entrance to this area, face North, then drop down the ledge on your left. The Runes will be on the wall directly ahead.
The Forbidden Sands Lore
There are sevenLore collectibles to be found in The Forbidden Sands.
advertisement
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 1 - Bjarg Stormr
- Prerequisite: Complete the Song of the Sands Favor
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore is found just West of the dome where you free the Hafgufa: look for a long wooden fence with a ledge behind it. However, you cannot get there until you complete the Song of the Sands Favor to clear up the sand storm.
Once the storm is cleared, slip through the fence on the right-hand side, then leap up the ledge. You’ll arrive in a clearing full of Dark Elf corpses. The Lore Marker will be over on the left-hand side of the clearing.
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 2 - The Enlightened One
- Prerequisite: Complete the Song of the Sands Favor
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found in the North-West area of The Forbidden Sands, and requires completing the Freyr’s Gift Favor. Additionally, you cannot even get there until you clear the sandstorm by completing the Song of the Sands Favor.
Once the storm is cleared away, head down the light bridge, then go right and up the ramp to a Light Crystal Socket. From here, look down to spot some Nest Vines: cut them with the Axe to reveal a Nest Wall below.
advertisement
Head back down to prepare for the next step. You’ll need to hit the Nest Wall with a Sonic Arrow, then throw your Axe through the Nest Vines on the other side, dropping the Light Crystal.
From the spot where you cut the Nest Vines, head right and look for some pots: smash them to also smash the rocks behind, revealing the path to the Light Crystal you just got.
Pick up the Light Crystal and carry it all the way back to the top of the ramp, then slot it into the Socket. Halfway there!
For the next Socket, head under the light bridge on the left and remove its Light Crystal. This reveals some Twilight Stone that you can use to bounce your Axe off of and cut through the Nest Matter on the other side. Once you’re done, return the Light Crystal to its socket.
Now head back to the pots you smashed earlier and take a right: you’ll find a third Light Crystal here powering the entry light bridge.
Now all you have to do is run up the smaller light bridge and slot the crystal into the Socket.
advertisement
This will power up the Lore Marker in the central area, allowing you to read it!
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 3 - Rules of the Sanctum
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.
It’ll be in the library room that you first arrive in, at the base of the dead tree.
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 4 - An Examination of Temporal Significance
advertisement
- Type: Scroll
This Lore Marker is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.
It’ll be in the library room, on a table to the left of the Lore Marker.
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 5 - Lost Page 2
- Type: Lost Page
- Unlocks: Hilt of Dainsleif
This Lost Page is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.
It’ll be in the main library room, on a table in the back of the room to the left of the dead tree. It’ll be hiding behind a pile of scrolls.
The Lost Page unlocks the Hilt of Dainsleif at Brok and Sindri’s workshops. This has Kratos slam the ground with an explosion of poison, leaving a hazard behind not unlike those made by Cursed Grims.
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 6 - The Arbiters of Knowledge
advertisement
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.
It’ll be in the main library room that you first arrive in: when you enter, turn around to face the entryway, then climb up the left-hand ledge. The Lore Marker will be on your right here.
The Forbidden Sands - Lore 7 - Forgotten Tower
- Type: Treasure Map
This scroll is in the Light Elf ruins in the North-East corner of The Forbidden Sands, where The Elven Sanctum Favor takes place.
It’ll be in the main library room that you first arrive in: turn around to face the entryway, then climb up one of the side ledges and make your way to the back. It’ll be on a shelf to the right of the Legendary Chest.

Idi’s Sinkhole - Lore-U 1 - Paints
This Lore is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.
- Type: Scroll
This Scroll is found in Idi’s Sinkhole, which Angrbroda takes you to in order to clear it of Wretches. It’s very dark here, so pay attention to these instructions!
After you get to the bottom of the sinkhole, you’ll slip under a gap into a cave system. Ahead will be a large red plant bathed in sunlight.
To the right of the plant is a torch you can tell Angrbroda to light. Do so, then climb up the ledge to the left of the torch.
Up the ledge is a split with a table in the middle: take the left-hand path, jump across the gap, then have Angrbroda light another torch directly ahead of you.
The torch marks another split, with the right-hand path being up a ledge. Ignore it and take the left-hand path instead and go around the corner.

Freyr’s Camp Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in Freyr's Camp.
Freyr’s Camp - Lore 1 - Freyr’s Lament
- Type: Scroll
This Scroll is found in the South-West part of Freyr’s Camp. Look for the climb markings to the right of Brok’s shop that marks where you entered this area The Southern Wilds.
advertisement
To the right of that is a shelter with a campfire in it: the Scroll will be there close to the fire (if it's daytime it won't be lit, however).
Freyr’s Camp - Lore 2 - Vanaheim Lullaby
- Type: Rune Read
The Rune Read of Freyr’s Camp can be found on its West side. Look for a large tree here with a path on the left that leads into the surrounding forest. On the other side of this tree will be the Rune Read, between two boats with leaves on them.
If you dropped Mimir off with Freyr, you won’t be able to read this until you return back to the camp and pick Mimir up again, since Kratos can only read Rune Reads if he has Mimir with him.
If you want to log the Rune Read now, pause the game, go to the Load menu, and load the second-to-last Autosave. This will be the one made just after the cutscene where you met Freyr, but before dropping Mimir off with him.
The Abandoned Village Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Abandoned Village.
The Abandoned Village - Lore 1 - Prayer to Freya
advertisement
- Type: Rune Read
The Rune Read in The Abandoned Village is found in the Eastern-most building. From where you first arrive, head directly forward through the first two huts (crossing the gap between them using the crane’s grapple point).
Exit the second hut, then go through the large doorway in the front of the stone building ahead (Freya calls it The Grand Hall). The Rune Read will be on the left-hand wall inside here.
The Abandoned Village - Lore 2 - Chores
- Type: Scroll
This Lore can be found starting from where you enter The Abandoned Village. At the first hut, look left and turn the crane so you can grapple across into the second hut.
There, look out the left-hand doorway and hit the crane again so you can grapple over to dry land.
advertisement
Once you land, face East towards The Great Hall. In front of you will be a hut on your left. To the right of it will be some pots and baskets, with the Scroll among them.
Western Barri Woods Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in the Western Barri.
Western Barri Woods - Lore 1 - Harmony
- Type: Lore Marker
The lone Lore in the Western Barri Woods is a Lore Marker. It’ll be in the spot where day changed to night with a view of a valley overhead; the marker will be on the edge of the cliff, close to the way out to the next area.
River Delta Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in the River Delta.
advertisement
River Delta - Lore 1 - Nonviolence
- Type: Scroll
This Lore Scroll can be accessed from a beach found under the giant tree between the Pilgrim’s Landing and Noatun’s Garden areas. Row into one of the passages leading under the tree and, instead of continuing forward, make a turn to find the shore you can beach on (turn left if you’re heading East, or right if you’re heading West).
Once inside, head up the stairs on the right and past the Yggdrasil Rift onto the bridge: jump the gap, then head to the end and check to the right of the Coffin to find the scroll! The Coffin itself will have 2 Honed Metal and 691 Hacksilver.
River Delta - Lore 2 - Living Masterpiece
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker can be found at the beach where the Southern Mystic Gateway is in The River Delta. Here will be Brok’s workshop: the Lore Marker will be on the right-hand side of it.
Pilgrim’s Landing Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Pilgrim's Landing.
advertisement
Pilgrim’s Landing - Lore 1 - Dead on Arrival
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is in Pilgrim’s Landing, which are the ruined buildings in the river, found in the Northern area of The River Delta. First, beach at the area directly West of the ruins and kill the Reavers you find there.
Next, head for the ruined building on the shoreline. Here will be a drawbridge held up by Red Fungi Bramble. Look for the Torch on the left side and fire a Sigil Arrow at it to ignite the bramble. Then, cut the two targets with the Leviathan Axe to lower the drawbridge.
On the other side on the left you’ll have to fight more Reavers, who are also backed up by two Cursed Nokken: defeat them to stop everyone else from rapidly healing! Once they’re down, locate the Lore Marker in the North-West corner of these ruins.
Noatun’s Garden Lore
There are threeLore collectibles to be found in Noatun's Garden.
advertisement
Noatun’s Garden - Lore 1 - Garden’s Progress
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is in Noatun’s Garden, an area of The River Delta in Vanaheim. Once you arrive here, check the South-West corner to find some handholds going up the side of the Southern-most building.
Once you get to the top, turn left to spot the Lore Marker!
Noatun’s Garden - Lore 2 - Golrab of the Ashes and Frost
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is in Noatun’s Garden. On the Eastern wall of this area is an ice seal you can break through with Thamur’s Chisel to access a Coffin. To the right of the ice seal will be the Lore Marker, up against the wall of a ruined building.
advertisement
Noatun’s Garden - Lore 3 - Under the Rainbow
- Type: Treasure Map
This Treasure Map is hidden away in Noatun’s Garden. When you arrive, check the North side of the area for the building with a Legendary Chest in it. Head right along the outer wall as far as you can, and you’ll find the Treasure Map hiding in the grass.
Cliffside Ruins Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Cliffside Ruins.
Cliffside Ruins - Lore 1 - Call to Arms
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is counted for The River Delta, however you can only access it by going through The Veiled Passage, the caves accessed at the Southern end of the river leading to Goddess Falls. This itself requires opening the door by climbing up the Cliffside Ruins and using the Rune Slate.
advertisement
Once you’ve done all that and gotten to the end of The Veiled Passage, slide down the gold chain, then turn right to spot the Lore Marker at the edge of the cliff. Don’t forget to find and smash the Hacksilver Chest to the left of it!
Goddess Falls Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in Goddess Falls.
Goddess Falls - Lore 1 - Anything I Can Do
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found early in Goddess Falls. From the lower area where you fight the Wulvers and Gulon, look for the wall with blood red markings on it where you can climb up.
When you get to the top, look right for a small dark cave you can enter. Destroy the two explosive plants, then read the Lore Marker!
Vanir Shrine Lore
There are sevenLore collectibles to be found in Vanir Shrine.
advertisement
Vanir Shrine - Lore 1 - The Feast
- Type: Lore Marker
The first piece of Lore in the Vanir Shrine is in the central area with the two purple Scorn Plants. Check the right-hand wall, close to the right-hand Scorn Plant, to find this in a dark alcove.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 2 - The Giant’s Toes
- Type: Treasure Map
The second Vanir Shrine Lore is close to the first; it’s in the central area with the two Scorn Poles. From the entrance to Vanir Shrine, head right, slipping past the radius of the right-hand Scorn Pole.
At the Lore Marker, make a U-Turn to the right to spot the Treasure Map at the feet of a dead man.
advertisement
Collecting this Treasure Map will unlock "The Giant’s Toes" Buried Treasure in Vanaheim’s Cliffside Ruins.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 3 - The Auburn Crown
- Type: Lore Marker
The third Vanir Shrine Lore is in the Northern side-area of the shrine, the one whose entrance is guarded by spitting plants. Head up the bridge into the area and then go right up the hill.
At the top of the hill, you can spot the Lore Marker directly ahead on the wall.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 4 - Traitor
- Type: Rune Read
advertisement
This Lore in Vanir Shrine is found in the Southern side-area, the one you enter by using Sigil Arrow Hexes to light two torches at once above the door.
Once you’ve opened the door, head up the ramp and around the corner to the next room. Standing in the doorway, you can spot the Rune Read on the wall to the right of the doorway.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 5 - The Blessing of Two
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore in Vanir Shrine is found in the Southern side-area, the one you enter by using Sigil Arrow Hexes to light two torches at once above the door.
Once you’ve opened the door, head through the complex until you reach the last room, which has two columns in the middle of it. Check to the left of the second column to find this Lore Marker on the side wall.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 6 - Abandoned
advertisement
- Type: Scroll
This Scroll is found in the most Western area of Vanir Shrine. After using both Runic Slates, head up the bridge of rocks. To the right of the doorway will be the Scroll, sitting next to a rock and between some red flowers.
Vanir Shrine - Lore 7 - The Ceremony
- Type: Lore Marker
This Scroll is found in the most Western area of Vanir Shrine. After using both Runic Slates, head up the bridge of rocks and to the doorway.
Stand in this doorway and look left to spot the Lore Marker standing in the shade.
The Veiled Passage Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in The Veiled Passage.
advertisement
The Veiled Passage - Lore 1 - Seidr Sacrifice
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found early in the main tunnel section of The Veiled Passage. After beaching on the shore, head left and smash the wooden wall.
Clear the room out of explosive plants, then climb up the left-hand wall. At the top, look to your right to spot the Lore Marker in an alcove.
SPOILER ALERT
The following Lore items are located in regions not initially available in Vanaheim until later in the game. As before, BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!
Eastern Barri Woods Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in the Eastern Barri Woods.
Eastern Barri Woods - Lore 1 - The Aesir Promise
advertisement
- Type: Scroll
This Lore is found soon after you explore the new Eastern area of Eastern Barri Woods that you can access during your second visit.
After you make a rock tunnel via a yellow Wind Fissure, go left at the split (right should go to a Coffin). As you head down, keep an eye out on your left for some curved stairs: the Scroll will be here.
Eastern Barri Woods - Lore 2 - Verdant
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is found during the second visit to Vanaheim, where you go from Eastern Barri Woods back to The Great Hall in The Abandoned Village. After your fight with some Einherjar, you’ll pull down a barricade and then spot a new enemy who quickly teleports away. Check the back-left wall to find the Rune Read hidden behind some crates.
The Plains Lore (Untracked)
There are threeLore collectibles to be found in The Plains Lore.
Because the Lore picked up from Travellers in The Crater are found in a set order, they have been named after the Traveller you have to defeat at that location, rather than the name of the Lore itself.
As well, these Lores are untracked, and thus not technically required for 100% completion.
advertisement
The Plains - Lore-U 1 - Egil
- Type: Scroll
Egil the Oath Guard is found in the South-East corner of The Plains, at the top of a cliff overlooking The Sinkholes below to the East.
The Plains - Lore-U 2 - Jorgen
- Prerequisite: Nighttime
- Type: Scroll
This piece of Lore is found in the Eastern half of The Plains, specifically in the South-Western corner of it. However, it’s blocked by a fence of plants during the day, meaning you’ll have to go to a Celestial Altar to change the time of day to night.
Once you’ve done that, head to the South-Western corner into a secluded path. Cross the gap with the grapple point, and you’ll be fighting another Traveller: Jorgen the Oath Guard. Kill him, and he’ll drop the Scroll!
advertisement
The Plains - Lore-U 3 - Vali
- Prerequisite: Nighttime
- Type: Scroll
This piece of Lore is found in the Western half of The Plains, however you can only access the area it’s in at night. You can do this by using one of the Celestial Altars, one of which is in The Plains’ Western half. Once you’ve done that, you may also have to defeat an Ogre, who’s banging onto the door leading to the Lore.
Kill the Ogre, then open the door and head down the valley (being careful of the explosive plants along the way).
At the end, head left to where the Chest is. Here you’ll be ambushed by two Seidr Shadows, as well as Vali the Oath Guard from behind. Kill Vali, and he’ll drop the Scroll!
The Plains Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Plains.
The Plains - Lore 1 - Seidr
advertisement
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found on the Eastern side of The Plains, up where the Celestial Altar is. It’ll be between that and Brok’s workshop, close to the local Mystic Gateway.
The Plains - Lore 2 - Apology
- Type: Lore Marker
The second Nornir Chest in The Plains is found at the North-Western corner of the region, however getting to it requires some setup first. To start, it must be nighttime: this allows you to open a gate North of the main lake. You can find a Celestial Altar to change the time of day nearby. Once you’ve done that, the gate will further be guarded by an Ogre.
Once you’ve defeated it, head through the gate and down the explosive plant-laden path until you come to a split: take the left-hand path. If you’ve not been down here before, you’ll have to face down two Seidr Shadows and a nasty Traveller known as Vali the Oath Guard.
When they’ve been killed, head to the corner to the left of the Coffin and look below: you should see a Scorn Pole laying gas all over the entry gate. Throw your Leviathan Axe at it to remove this hazard.
advertisement
With that done, return back to the first gate, then head right: you should vault over a fallen stone pillar, then drop down a cliff into a clearing. On the right is another gate: since you froze the Scorn Pole with the Leviathan Axe, you can safely open it!
On the other side, you’ll be fighting Seidr Reavers and Shadows, and a Viken, all backed up by more Scorn Poles. Luckily they’re the Seidr-buffing variety and not the gas-laying ones.
Once you’ve killed the Seidr, you’ll find the Lore Marker close to the entryway, on the opposite side as the Scorn Pole.
The Jungle Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Jungle.
The Jungle - Lore 1 - Unforgiven
- Type: Lore Marker
advertisement
This Lore Marker is found at the top of the dam in The Jungle. After taking the lift up, defeat any Seidr who may be around, then jump across the gaps. After the second gap, it’ll be on your right, next to a yellow glowing plant acting as a light source.
The Jungle - Lore 2 - City of Possibility
- Prerequisites:
- Complete the Return of the River Favor
- Daytime
- Type: Rune Read
This Seasonal Stag has two requirements before you can reach it. First, you must complete the Return of the River Favor, which allows you to explore the South-Eastern half of the area via boat. Second, you need to find the Celestial Altar in that area and change the time to day.
Once you’ve done that, head to the dock in the North-Eastern corner of The Jungle that lets you slip through to the area where you fight the Ogres. Directly across from the entrypoint are vines with two grapple points: one to pull down a blocking wall, and another to get across the gap back to the North-Western side of The Jungle.
Once you’re across, head down the path, where you’ll have to make your way around a chasm via a long U-Turn whilst dodging spitter vine plants. When you jump across the chasm for the first time, make sure to kick down the gold chain!
When you jump across the chasm a second time, keep an eye out on your right for a stone wall: you’ll be able to slip through here to get to a Drake’s lair.
advertisement
In the middle of the lair is a circular Vanir-made pit. Drop down it to wind up in the bottom of a cage.
To get out, turn around to spot a wooden spinner: hit the left-hand side with the Leviathan Axe to turn it and raise the cage momentarily.
Once you’re out, the Runes will be on the right-hand side of the stone wall where the wooden spinner was.
The Sinkholes Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in The Sinkholes.
The Sinkholes - Lore 1 - Everything Ends
- Type: Lore Marker
The lone Lore in The Sinkholes can be found early on in the region. Take the zipline down from The Plains, then head right and through the tunnel with the Scorn Plant.
advertisement
On the other side, make a U-Turn to the right to find a Seidr camp: defeat the Shadow, Viken and Revenant here, then check to the right of the stone archway to find the Lore Marker!

Lower Wildwoods Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in Lower Wildwoods.
Lower Wildwoods - Lore 1 - Winter-Man?
This Lore is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.
- Type: Rune Read
This Rune Read is found as you follow Atreus to the ruined temple, just after you slide down the zipline rope, fight some enemies, slip through a small gap, and encounter your first Hel-Raider Scout. It’ll be visible to the right of the icy cliff you have to climb up.
advertisement
Lower Wildwoods - Lore 2 - The Ashen God
This Lore is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.
- Type: Scroll
Found close to the ruined temple after you fight the Stalker, aka the Huntress centaur boss who breaks Kratos’ Guardian Shield.
Once you climb up the ice wall to the dark entrance inside the ruined temple, take the left and drop down onto the ruined bridge to find the scroll at the end.
Lake of Nine Lore
There are fourLore collectibles to be found in the Lake of Nine.
Lake of Nine - Lore 1 - Tyr’s Left Bracer
advertisement
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is part of the Guiding Light Favor, and can be found on the bracelet of the Tyr statue’s arm close to the Lake of Nine Mystic Gateway.
While you’re here, don’t forget to dig up the glowing spot here to get the Gauntlets of Guiding Light.
Lake of Nine - Lore 2 - Tyr’s Helmet
- Type: Rune Read
This Lore is part of the Guiding Light Favor, and is found at Tyr’s Helmet. It can be spotted in the ice close to the North-East side of Tyr’s Temple, the large structure in the middle of the lake. The runes will be inside the bent right cheek of the helmet.
While here, make sure to dig up the glowing spot inside the chest near the campfire to get the Breastplate of Guiding Light.
Lake of Nine - Lore 3 - Tyr’s Spear
advertisement
- Type: Rune Read
This Rune Read is part of the Guiding Light Favor, and is found just East of the frozen lightning bolt just South of the Tyr’s Temple realm bridge. You’ll find it on the East wall of the snowy path that makes up the South-Eastern area of the Lake of Nine.
While you’re over here, don’t forget to dig up the glowing spot to get the Jotunheim’s Essence Enchantment and 30 Whispering Slabs!
Lake of Nine - Lore 4 - Receipt of Purchase
- Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
- Type: Scroll
This Scroll is found South-West of Tyr’s Temple, directly between it and The Lost Treasury building. However, you cannot access it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest.
Once you’ve done this, sled out to the spot on the wall of ice South-West of Tyr’s Temple. You should be able to find a yellow Wind Fissure: destroy it using the new equipment you got during Forging Destiny.
Head through and you should see the Scroll on your left. Next to it is the Mystical Heirloom, a Relic that has rather unknown properties, outside of perhaps counteracting a sleeping curse.
advertisement
Also in the area is a Coffin, behind the gas of a Scorn Pole. To get past it, you’ll need to set up a chain of Hex Bubbles, as it’s otherwise blocked by the ice.
Shores of Nine Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in the Shores of Nine.
Shores of Nine - Lore 1 - Tyr’s Right Bracer
- Type: Rune Read
- Prerequisite: Complete the Into the Fire main quest.
This Rune Read is in the Shores of Nine that you can initially explore as Atreus, however since it’s hidden behind some Hel’s Bramble, it cannot be accessed until you’re able to explore the area as Kratos.
Once you’re able to do this, head for the Northern area of the Lake of Nine and look for a wide beam you can vault over. Slip under the fallen rock, then retrace your steps by creeping through the wreckage of the arm of Tyr’s statue.
On the other side, you’ll have to fight a pair of Frost Gradungr before you can continue. Once they’re down, face the arm and you’ll see the lore glowing behind some Hel’s Bramble. Burn it down with the Blades of Chaos!
While here, make sure to dig up the glowing spot to get the Waist Guard of Guiding Light.
advertisement
Raider Fort Lore
There is one Lore collectible to be found in the Raider Fort.
Raider Fort - Lore 1 - Viking’s Gift
- Type: Treasure Map
This Treasure Map is the only collectible in the Raider Fort. This is the enclosed arena of ice close to the giant rib bones, which is where you enter the Lake of Nine from the Lower Wildwoods where Kratos’ house is.
Once you’ve cleared the fort of Raiders, check near the lit campfire to find the Treasure Map sitting out in the open. It’ll lead you to a Buried Treasure spot in the North-East area of the Lake of Nine, close to the Raider Hideout.
The Derelict Outpost Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Derelict Outpost.
The Derelict Outpost - Lore 1 - Bjarg Stormr
advertisement
- Type: Lore Marker
The first Lore Marker of The Derelict Outpost is found in the opening area of the level. From the entryway, head directly forwards to where the Wisp Totem is.
Here at the corner, turn left to spot the Lore Marker!
The Derelict Outpost - Lore 2 - An Accursed Name
- Type: Lore Marker
This Lore Marker is found at the end of The Derelict Outpost level. After moving the third wooden crane into position (using the chain in the lower level to lower it so you can turn it), grapple across the gap, and leap up the cliff.

The Oarsmen Lore
There is oneLore collectible to be found in The Oarsmen.
The Oarsmen - Lore 1 - The Death of Helgi
- Type: Lore Marker
This Artifact is found at the end of the path in The Oarsman. After pulling the chain to move the boat, head down the staircase, and it’ll be visible on the back wall.
The Lost Treasury Lore
There are twoLore collectibles to be found in The Lost Treasury.
The Lost Treasury - Lore 1 - Love's End
- Type: Lore Marker
advertisement
This Lore Marker is a lengthy one, because you have to complete the lengthy Tyr’s Shield puzzle that is the showcase of this area. The goal is to roll the shield just enough that a hole at the bottom lets you enter the gate of the building. This requires moving a makeshift stopper into position.
To begin, yank the shield to the right, then climb up it to the right-hand side of the ruins.
At the top, break the black pot to destroy the gold rocks, felling a stone column. While you can try and move the column with the Blades of Chaos, Tyr’s shield is in the way!
Head through the open doorway, defeat the Wisps that show up with the help of Hexes, then drop down the side of the building (don’t forget to loot the Coffin for 1 Petrified Bone and 871 Hacksilver). From here, latch onto the left-hand side of the shield and tug it to the left. This moves it out of the way so you can put the stone column into position.
Next, climb up the left-hand side of the shield to get back up to the left-hand side of the building, then cross over through the doorway back to the right side where the stone column is. Yank the stone column to the left, and it’ll now be sticking out over the edge of the roof. This will stop the shield from rolling too far! Loot the Hacksilver Chest, then drop down the edge of the roof back to solid ground.
Yank to shield to the right (knocking into the column) to get it into position, then man the wheel crank and turn it to open the gate. Now comes the second conundrum: you have to freeze both of the gears on the left and right sides of the shield to keep the gate from closing.
You can do this with a Hex Bubble, which is able to retain the Axe’s freeze for 10 seconds. Fire a Sigil Arrow at one of the gears, then quickly throw the Axe into it, recall it, then throw the axe into the other gear and leave it there. You’ll have only a couple of seconds to sprint inside!
advertisement
Once you’re in, look left to spot a door blocked by Red Fungi Bramble. Hit it with a Sigil Arrow, then use a Blazing Surge to burn it away.
On the other side you'll be up against a Traveller. These are tough opponents with slow, easier-to-read attacks, but if you are hit, you'll be hit HARD.
Once the Traveller is down, check the corner to the right of the entry door to find the Lore Marker! Phew!
The Lost Treasury - Lore 2 - Lost Page 3
- Type: Scroll
This Lore is found in the final room of The Lost Treasury. Because of this, however, you'll need to complete the lengthy puzzle required to get inside. You can read the entry for the first Lore in The Lost Treasury to learn how to get inside.
advertisement
Once you've done this, climb up the Southern wall to get to the roof, then turn around. You'll see that you can jump down and breach a point in the floor.
Once you've broken through, the Scroll will be directly in front of you!

Helgrind Lore

Helgrind - Lore 1 - Prayer to Hraesvelgr
advertisement
- Type: Rune Read
This Rune Read can be found at the start of the level as Kratos, where you’ll climb down a wall and encounter Hel-Walkers. Once they’re down, look for the upper area where the Hel-Shadow Archers were firing at you with their ice lances. Climb up there from the right-hand side, then make your way left up the ledge: you’ll see the Lore ahead on your right.
Helgrind - Lore 2 - Hraesvelgr
- Type: Lore Marker
This piece of Lore is found in the Helgrind area, however you cannot access it until you’ve resolved the situation with Garm. Once you’ve done so, you’ll be North-West of where you started, close to the Shipyard of the Fallen. You’ll need to leap up onto a bridge and head left to continue.
When you’re there, you’ll encounter the last door puzzle of the area. Drop through the gap on the right-hand rise of the bridge and man the gear crank. Ahead you’ll see a turning gear mechanism:
- Place a double-size Hex Bubble onto it, then turn the gear so the bubble is at the top.
- Place another, standard-sized Hex Bubble at the bottom of the gear
- Throw your Axe into the lower Hex Bubble: the Frost will chain up the mechanism and freeze the yellow gear, keeping the bridge open!
With the door open, quickly climb back up and rush through it, and you’ll see the Lore Marker directly in front of you.

- Prerequisite: Complete The Path quests
- Type: Scroll
This piece of Lore is found in the arena to the South-East of the main Crucible arena, however this area is only accessible after you’ve completed the quests in The Path. Further still, you must also beat the boss in this arena, which is no small feat indeed!
advertisement
Once you’ve accomplished this, the Lore is in fact very easy to miss: it’s in the middle of the arena, but after the cutscene, Kratos faces away from it towards the exit. Make sure you go and grab it!

There is one Lore collectible to be found in The Crucible.
Burning Cliffs - Lore 1 - Valhalla Rises
- Prerequisite: Complete The Path quests
